What is Virtual Exercise Therapy?

Exercise or movement therapies is used by a broad range of health care professional including but not limited to physio therapists, chiropractors, massage therapists and personal trainers for the purpose of addressing specific symptoms, injuries or ailments that impede both function and quality of life. Due to our ever changing world, virtual therapies have gained popularity as they offer a convenient one-on-one experience in the comfort of your own home through virtual based platforms.

Who is it geared towards?

My goal as a practitioner is to bridge the gap between rehabilitative services and recreational pursuits by providing a structured one on one environment that not only encourages accountability from my clients but gives them the confidence that what they are doing is safe and effective. In some cases these programs work in collaboration with allied health care professionals while clients are actively receiving other treatments while other programs are designed to aid clients in continuing towards their lifestyle, work and fitness goals once treatment has ceased.

How do I get started?

Step One: Book Initial Consultation

The initial consultation takes approximately 30 – 60 minutes in duration and is essentially an information gathering session that gives us the opportunity to discuss important information including but not limited to current and past health history as well as training objectives and expectation. The second half of the consultation consists of a movement assessment in which clients will be asked to complete a series of basic movement patterns as well as demonstrate a variety of joint ranges of motion for the purpose determining appropriate exercises and mobility strategies in the subsequent program.

Step Two: Program Design

From the information gathered above, I create a workout that is individualized to address each client’s personal strengths/weaknesses, injuries and/or health concerns as well as specific training objectives. An example workout template will be provided during the initial consultation to allow for input on exercise modalities, preferences, time constraints, etc.

Step Three: Guided Workout

All workouts are conducted using a virtual platform and are approximately 60 minutes in duration. Client’s will receive a hard copy of the day’s exercises which includes but is not limited to a description of the exercises as well as additional information such as how many sets, repetitions and rest is required for each exercise. Ongoing modifications ensure that programs are always client specific and one-on-one guidance allows for continuous feedback and cuing.
